Multi-Engine Rating.

In Canada, a Multi-Engine Rating allows a pilot to act as Pilot-in-Command of aeroplanes equipped with more than one engine, typically non-high performance piston aircraft. It is important to note that the rating does not authorize flight in turbine-powered or high-performance aircraft unless separately endorsed, and it must be held in conjunction with a valid licence such as a PPL or CPL to be valid.
Requirements as per CAR 421.38 Subpart 3
An applicant for a multi-engine class rating shall successfully complete a flight test as pilot-in-command of a multi-engine class aeroplane, in accordance with Schedule 7 “Flight Test for the Issuance of a Multi-Engine Class Rating – Aeroplane” of Standard 428 - Conduct of Flight Tests.

* As there is no minimum hour requirement to obtain the Multi-Engine Rating, historically at Island Air we have observed students complete this rating at 10 hours or less. These figures to the left do not include ground briefing charges as they also vary student to student. Each student learns at a different pace and may require more hours. At Island Air, our priority is to make you the safest pilot you can be, which may result in training that exceeds the minimum standards.
