Whether it is to keep your skills fresh or to take your friends for a flight all aircraft are available for rental & leisure purposes (excluding the Piper Aztec).
Full Check - Out
If it is your first time flying with Island Air you will require a full check out on the aircraft that you desire to rent for future flying purposes.

Due to the complex nature of the airspace we operate in, the full check out consist of the following:
-
​ Minimum 2.5 Hours Total with an Instructor split between two flights
-
Covering upper air work in our practice area​​
-
Take offs & Landings at YTZ in the circuit​
-
The check out is fully dependant on the ability of the pilot and could result in a longer check out pro​cess.

​ Comprehensive ground briefing of YTZ operations and a discussion of the airspace surrounding YTZ.

Island Air Currency Requirements
After completing your initial checkout on aircraft type you must fly once in 30 days in the type you have been checked out on in order to remain current at Island Air.
​
If you are a holder of a CPL this requirement is 60 days and if you are a holder of an ATPL this requirement is 90 days.
​
If you exceed your 30 PPL/60 CPL/90 ATPL day currency date you will require another dual flight with an instructor consisting of a circuit check which will require 3 take-offs & landings, a review of emergency procedures, and operational items related to YTZ.
Transport Canada Recency & Currency Requirements

To serve as a pilot-in-command, you are required to satisfy both the 5-year and 2-year recency standards. Additionally, if you intend to carry passengers, you must also fulfill the 6-month recency requirement.

In order to meet the 5 year recency requirements other than holding a valid medical as per CARs 401.05 & 421.05 in summary you must:
1. Have flown as pilot in command or copilot within the previous 5 years
OR ​​
2. Have succussfully completed both a flight review conducted by a Flight Instructor and the appropriate written examination specified in the personnel licensing standards within the previous 12 months (PSTAR).

​In order to meet the 2 year recency requirements other than holding a valid medical as per CARs 421.05 in summary you must do one of the following:
​
-
complete a flight review with an instructor;
-
attend a safety seminar conducted by Transport Canada;
-
participate in a Transport Canada approved recurrent training program;
-
complete the self-paced study program in the Transport Canada Aviation Safety Newsletter;
-
complete a training program or PPC required by Part IV, VI or VII of the CARs;
-
complete the requirements for the issue or renewal of a licence, permit or rating; or
-
complete the written exam for a licence, permit or rating.

To meet the 6-month requirement for carrying passengers, in summary as per CARs 401.05 (2) you must have completed
-
5 take-offs and landings in the same category and class of aircraft within the previous 6 months.

If the flight is to be flown at night, then the take-offs and landings must have been completed at night.
