VFR - Over the Top Rating.

As per CAR 401.45 & 602.116, the holder of a pilot licence endorsed with a VFR OTT (Over-the-Top) rating may operate an aircraft under VFR OTT during the cruise portion of a flight in daylight hours, provided specific conditions are met. The conditions are outlined in CAR 602.116.
​A holder of an Instrument Rating or Commercial Pilot License is automatically eligible for a VFR-OTT and does not require any of the items stated on this page.
Requirements as per CAR 421.44

An applicant for a VFR OTT rating shall acquire a standard of knowledge in accordance with the Flight Instructor Standard - VFR OTT.​​

Minimum 15 hours of dual instrument time

Up to 5 hours may be instrument ground time

Training must follow the Flight Instructor Standard – VFR OTT
