Recreational Pilot Permit.

The holder of a Recreational Pilot Permit – Aeroplane may act as Pilot-in-Command of a single-engine, non-high-performance aeroplane that is type-certified to carry no more than four persons, provided that no more than one passenger is carried on board. Operations are restricted to day VFR within Canadian airspace. The permit also allows the holder to act as Pilot-in-Command of an aeroplane.

Minimum Age: 16 years old

Medical: Category 4 Medical Certificate (or Category 1 or 3 also acceptable)
Can be obtained via Civil Aviation Medical Declaration signed by a Canadian physician

Pass the RPPAE or PPAER written exam with 60% minimum in each subject:

25 hours total flight time (minimum)

15 hours dual, including at least 2 hours cross-country

Please note that the cost of a personal aviation headset and any additional books you choose to purchase are not included in these figures.
