Night Rating.

The "Night Rating" allows a licensed pilot to fly an aircraft at night under Visual Flight Rules (VFR). This means you can legally take off, navigate, and land between the end of evening civil twilight and the beginning of morning civil twilight, provided weather conditions remain suitable for VFR. To obtain this rating you must already hold a Private Pilot License (PPL) and obtaining this rating permits you to carry passengers at night, as long as you meet the required recency standards. While it does not authorize flight in instrument meteorological conditions (IMC), it greatly expands your flexibility as a pilot. Once obtained, the Night Rating does not expire.

* These figures are based on Transport Canada’s minimum requirements for a Cessna 150, along with the licensing fees associated with Island Air. These figures to the above do not include ground briefing charges as they also vary student to student. Each student learns at a different pace and may require more hours than the Transport Canada minimums. At Island Air, our priority is to make you the safest pilot you can be, which may result in training that exceeds the minimum standards.
